The Great Pattern Review

Drafting & Pattern Designing
by the Womens Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences

Original copies of the Women's Institute Books (there's a whole series) often turn up on eBay and sell for very modest amounts.

Sorrel Smith - Highly Recommended

You will find no simpler vintage drafting system! LACIS has reproduced the famous Picken Square (God's gift to costumers everywhere). It's a fabulous tool for drafting late 19th/early 20th century patterns. The curves on the Picken Square are quite different from modern tools. Once you learn to use the scales of fractions printed on it, you will never go back to any other method. How many of us took up artistic sewing because we loathe mathmatics? Use the Picken Square along with this drafting book to make all sorts of custom-fitted early 1920's fashions. I made the Foundation Waist and Semi-fitted Princess Combination Suit. Both turned out quite well.
