The Great Pattern Review

Ladies Outing Jacket

Good instructions. The body is a rather boxy shape. You'll need to tailor it. This style of jacket is supposed to be fitted.

Gentleman's Frock Coat

Lisa Prindle - Highly Recommended

The pattern contains clear instructions and good illustrations throughout. This was easy to create for an intermediate level seamstress. I could have used a better illustration for the back pleat/vent. I had a problem with my choice of fabric, a twill weave combination of wool and synthetic. It liked to wrinkle and pull at the collar. Other than that, I am happy with my effort.

Primrose Skirt

Jill Silbert

Mixed feelings on this skirt! After three glasses of wine, I felt ready to tackle the pleated trim for an order for our living history museum. One look at the instructions, I and regretted having the second and third glasses!!! Also, my collie decided to help me do the pleating, so we weren't exactly doing this the standard way! The skirt itself went together very well, but very plainly!!! This needed something to make it stand out, whether it be braiding or the optional pleating. I would steer people back to Past Patterns before making this skirt again.

Romantic Era Blouse

Jill Silbert - Highly Recommended

Okay, the same lady that orderd the three-glasses-of-wine skirt also wanted a blouse from this company. On this I absolutely LOVED this pattern!!! You have five different blouses to choose from, but with all those choices, you can definately make your own combinations as well. This blouse (if you choose the most basic pattern) goes together in about 30 minutes, including cutting. They give you directions to make the front closure as well!!!! If you choose the most complicated one, it can take about a day, with all the lace, but I LOVE THIS!!!!! My favorite is the Calamity Jane!!!

Vests

I made the Prescott vest. I was able to sew this vest in a few hours. The pattern offers four styles and includes great instructions for welt pockets.

I made the Virginia City vest. The instructions were clear and accurate. This is the double-breasted vest. The finished garment is very attractive. One warning: these patterns run a bit small so don't make any assumptions concerning the fit. Measure carefully.
