The 2012 GBACG Workshop Series Presents:
Edwardian Corset Workshop

Saturday, February 18th & 25th, 2012 -- 10am-5pm
Hancock Fabrics, San Jose, CA

Do you need a long-line, Edwardian corset for upcoming events? Maybe it's time you tried a new style of corset? At the end of this workshop you'll know why they "build" corsets instead of make them! In this two-part workshop, intermediate and advanced sewers will learn to alter the pattern to make their own custom Edwardian corset. You will get expert fitting help for this particular type of corset while having the mysteries of building corsets revealed with master teacher, Carol Wood. Two days plus completing homework between sessions should allow for enough time to finish your corset. Using the Truly Victorian pattern (TVE01,) we'll build a corset appropriate for the years 1900 – 1910 (later years require style alterations). In her classes, Carol emphasizes technical skills in drafting, cutting, construction, and fitting, so you come away with more than what the pattern instructions promise.

Instructor Bio: Carol Wood, professional pattern maker and costumer, has been researching, recreating and wearing historical garments for decades. Her work has been shown in galleries, appeared on stage and been honored with awards. She has been teaching the various forms of corset drafting, fitting, and construction for the past 7 years and holds a degree in apparel design from the College of Alameda, a school well-known for emphasis on technical skills. Carol currently works as an assistant cutter at San Francisco Opera's Costume Shop and designs under the label, "Fannye Grace."
